Dresses are an incredibly extensive part of clothing. We have an exceptionally wide range of styles to choose from, in many patterns

and colours. However, it is worth remembering that not every dress will be suitable for every occasion. We will wear a different dress for a date, and another

for a family communion, wedding, or carnival ball. Therefore, it is always worth asking ourselves – what should

characterise a dress to suit a specific occasion.

The event's setting

It might seem that the more elegant the event, the stricter the etiquette will be, and thus

we will choose our outfit more cautiously. However, this rule also works the other way around. While choosing a dress that is too casual

for a given event will make us look inappropriate, let’s not forget that dressing up

in an elegant outfit for a casual outing with friends can also expose us to ridicule.

Let’s remember that for most events, the outfit should not be overly formal. Gatherings with

family and friends generally do not require adherence to such demanding etiquette as, for example, formal balls.

Choosing a dress for a wedding

This is precisely the choice of these outfits that often causes women the most problems. It is an important event,

where everyone wants to look good.

The basic rule, of course, is that a wedding dress cannot be white. This colour is reserved

exclusively for the bride. It is also worth forgetting about black, whose subdued character clashes

with the joyful tone of this celebration. Besides, we can allow ourselves considerable freedom when it comes to choice.

Family gatherings and events

A great idea for such parties is a cocktail dress. This category includes semi-formal styles that

are perfect for various types of parties or gatherings. Their advantage is that we can choose from

a whole range of stylistic and colour variations. Although most dresses of this type reach the knee, we can easily

find exceptions to this rule.

What to choose for a date?

If we want to go on an elegant date, we should opt for a dress that shows this is an important

event for us. It should also be an outfit that highlights our charms. However, it is worth ensuring that it does so as

subtly as possible.

A formal ball or another elegant event

If we are invited to an elegant event that requires guests to adapt their outfits to specific

etiquette requirements, we will usually be informed of this in the invitation. We will thus find out what type of dress

we should choose.
